Please don’t

Not for music streaming services

Please don’t upload the music to Spotify, Apple Music or any other music streaming service. That includes remixes, samples and covers of it.

How to credit

Copy this into the description of your video, stream, podcast episode or post (the copy button above does it for you): Music by Purrple Cat or the full licence version Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. If you cannot add text (a shop, an event), a small sign or a line in your “thanks” page is fine.

How the player works

Press play on any playlist and the player at the bottom takes over. It keeps playing while you click around the site, so you can browse the field guide without the music stopping. Use the moon button for the sleep timer (15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or after the current song), the loop button to repeat the playlist, and shuffle for a random order. Space plays or pauses. Each track has an MP3 button for a free download, and each playlist has an M3U8 file for VLC and other players.

About the music

Purrple Cat is an independent lofi project that has been making instrumental music since 2018, with 500+ songs. This site collects the autumn-feeling ones from the records released from 2020 onward into eight playlists. It is not a radio and not a streaming service: it is a free collection to listen to and to use.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What are the best fall songs to play right now?

Start with The Fall Songs Playlist on this page: 121 instrumental tracks in season order, from golden early fall to foggy late fall. If you know the moment you are in, pick a specimen instead: Fall Walk, Rainy Window, Cardigan Café, Bonfire Blanket and more.

Is this fall playlist free?

Yes. Every playlist streams free with no sign-up and no ads, and every track has a free MP3 download. The music is by Purrple Cat and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).

Are these songs instrumental?

Yes, all of them. There are no lyrics, which makes the playlists easy to study, work, read and sleep to, and safe to play around kids.

Why no famous fall songs like “September” or “Harvest Moon”?

This site only has original music by Purrple Cat, so you will not find hit songs here. What you get is music that feels like fall without lyrics, free to use in videos, streams and shops with credit.

What is the difference between early, peak and late fall?

Early fall is golden and bright (late September to early October). Peak fall is rainy, candlelit and cozy (mid October to early November). Late fall is foggy, copper and quiet (mid November to the winter solstice). Each playlist is tagged with its phase.

How long are the playlists?

The eight playlists run from about 37 to 49 minutes. For longer listening there are 1-hour, 2-hour and 3-hour mixes, and the full season playlist runs about 5 h 41 min. Everything loops.

Can I use this music in my fall videos and livestreams?

Yes, with credit. Use it on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and other social media, in videos, streams, games, shops and cafés. Add the credit “Music by Purrple Cat”.

Will my videos get Content ID claims?

No. The music is not registered with Content ID, so videos, streams and VODs will not be claimed for it.

Can I upload the music to Spotify or Apple Music?

No. Please don’t upload the music to music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer or Tidal. That includes remixes, samples and covers of it.

Can I download a playlist or use it in another player?

Yes. Download any track as an MP3, or save a whole playlist as an M3U8 file and open it in VLC or any media player.

Does it have a sleep timer?

Yes. Use the moon button in the player: 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or after the current song. The music fades out gently.
